Two mixed media canvases from me

Good morning!

Today, in a (for once) lovely sunny corner of Kent, UK. I am bringing you wo mixed media canvases I was working on earlier in the week when playing along with http://creativeartistemixedmedia.blogspot.co.uk

They both started out in the same manner.. a layer of gesso, sometexture paste through a stencil and then painted with another layer of gesso.

I added lots, and lots, of embellishments, shells, an octopus charm and other sea related items on the blue one and flowers, metal charms egtc on the peachy gold one. I used Prima Gloss translucent gel on both to adhere them to the backgrounds..one a mini canvas and one a large chipboard heart.

Once the glue had dried I painted all the elements and sprayed and misted them until I was happy with the colours.

To finish off I I added some gold wax to the 'Deep Blue' one and then added tiny white hightlights to the 'Love' one.

Here they are on my desk before I added all the colour to them

I love doing thesebut not sure what use they are, so I will keep making them..but I'm not actually sure what I am actually going to do with them? Any ideas?

  1. They are beautiful Elaine.
They will make fabulous wall hangers. The blue one would be great in a small downstairs cloakroom and the peach one would look lovely as an accent amongst a collection of family photos on the wall.
Have a great weekend (the sun is shining here too at the moment - yippee).

  2. I like the octopus & the blue colour on the first one more Elaine.
I could just see that hanging up in a bathroom or even a beach hut .

  3. These are beautiful and would make excellent wall hangings ( or as is now fashionable to say home decor items). The rectangular one would also make a fabulous book cover.

  4. Hi Elaine - these are gorgeous! Love the colour palettes you have used on both of these. So many elements to look at.
Think I would use these as wall hangings, as already said the rectangular one would make a great book cover - on a photo album or scrapbook perhaps.
